This happens to women and fetuses when a woman is in the first trimester of her pregnancy. Women can also get this and pass it on to the fetus if they get rubella during the conception process as well, though researchers will tell someone that the stakes aren’t as high that a fetus will get this as compared to the percentage of the possibility that they contract it from the first to twelfth week of pregnancy.
There are many things that are associated with congenital rubella. Deafness is one of the symptoms of this. Eye abnormalities are another symptom. Many have congenital heart defects, which is why it’s named congenital rubella syndrome.
There are other things as well which could occur to a fetus, which is diagnosed with having congenital rubella syndrome. These include things such as mental retardation. One might have a small head size. Many have low birth weights and are forced to be born prematurely because they have heart problems which if they aren’t placed on proper equipment, it might run a risk of hurting the fetus.
Even if a child overcomes and has few of the above symptoms which are associated with congenital rubella syndrome, they are not out of the woods yet. There are things that can happen later down the road as they age. Such things include: schizophrenia, they might have a delay in growth, learning disabilities are persistent as well as diabetes and many other things doctors should watch out for. This is what congenital rubella syndrome is. It isn’t as wide known as it once was, but mothers have to beware of what they are subjected to when they are carrying a child.
